    When you soak them do they get any bigger or do they stay the same size?

    Salt to dehydrate and dry out? Come on. If you know why salt is added to backed goods you can improve your hard tack recipe. Salt is added to baked goods as an adjunct to help gluten hold carbon dioxide so the bread rises (Hard tack, as you noted, is unleavened). Oh, and for flavor. Nothing to do with hydration.

    Original made from whole wheat flour because, well everything was made from whole wheat flour. They went rancid in about 6 months on a ship and were gross to eat. When made with white flour they have very little nutritional value.

    2: buy jerky eat jerky put the dehydrater in a bag
    3: put hard tack in bag
    4:seal.
    With this method hard tack may last past your expiry date

  19. add whey protein and seasoning, Italian, Indian, Mexican, take them camping and cook in a small amount of water, mush mush and more mush, but at least you have flavor. I have a friend who grinds up multi vitamins in his as well.
